Job Description Summary The Department of Microbiology & Immunology in the Chicago Medical School at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine & Science invites applications for a full-time Postdoctoral Research Associate position in the Laboratory for Dr. Fabio Re. The Postdoctoral Research Associate will study the role of Toll-like receptors and Nod-like receptors during vaccination, and bacterial infections. Essential Duties & Responsibilities • As part of a group of scholars studying innate immunity, conduct independent research projects which contribute to the group’s studies. • Unsupervised planning, execution, data collection, analyses and preparation of manuscripts are expected. • Conduct the following specific research projects independently: Vaccinate mice, collect and analyze biological samples. Infect mice with different bacteria, collect and analyze biological samples. Efficient management of mouse colony. Analyze immune cell populations using multicolor flow cytometry. Perform molecular biology assays including preparation DNA, RNA, cloning, real-time-PCR, expression and purification of recombinant proteins, plasmids, Western blots, ELISA, immunofluorescence microscopy. • Carry out experiments in cell and molecular biology, maintain mammalian and bacterial cell cultures. • Perform other related job duties as assigned or delegated.
Required Education & Experience • Recent Ph.D. degree in immunology or microbiology. • Two to four years of laboratory bench experience in mouse immunology, bacterial infection, host-pathogen interaction. •Must achieve a background check clearance.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities • Excellent organizational skills. • Knowledge about computer applications such as Word, Excel and Power Point. • Good English reading, writing and verbal communication skills. • Ability to collect and analyze data. • Ability to work independently and as a team. • Demonstrated project management skills, including ability to set priorities and excellent time management skills. • Ability to work productively with diverse populations; show respect and sensitivity for cultural differences.
