The Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering at Harvard University invites applications for a postdoctoral fellow position in the Programmable Nanomaterials platform. The mission of the Wyss Institute is to discover the engineering principles that Nature uses to build living things, pursue the high-risk research that is fundamental to advance this effort and to harness these insights to create biologically inspired materials and devices to advance human health and improve the environment -- thereby revolutionizing clinical medicine and creating a more sustainable world. We seek outstanding applicants for an interdisciplinary postdoctoral position in biochemical sensing.
The Joshi lab is seeking postdoctoral candidates to advance its efforts in the area of probiotic engineering. Qualified candidates should have a Ph.D. with a strong background in some combination of the following fields: genetic engineering, microbiology, immunology, or in vivo imaging. The position will involve the design and construction of genomically edited bacterial strains, along with their in vitro characterization and evaluation in small animal models. Mentoring of younger students, engagement in the vibrant research community at Harvard SEAS and the Wyss Institute, and participation in grant writing will all be expected. Candidates with their own funding sources will be viewed favorably for the position, but it is not required to apply.
Our lab is committed to having a diverse, interdisciplinary, team-oriented, and fun environment. For more about our lab's work see http://joshi.hms.harvard.edu.
How to apply: Applications, assembled as single pdf files, should contain a cover letter briefly describing candidate's background and specific research interests, a full CV with a publication list, expected PhD completion date, and the names and contact information for three references who might be contacted for recommendations. Applications should be sent to Katalin.Papp@wyss.harvard.edu using the subject line “probiotic engineering.” The target start date for the position will be late Spring 2017.
Harvard University is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer and applications from women and minority candidates are strongly encouraged.
