The incumbent will use a variety of molecular, cell biology and biochemical techniques under the direct supervision of the Principal Investigator. Common experimental procedures in the laboratory include growing and harvesting bacteria and cultured cells, preparing plasmid DNA, RNA isolation, gel electrophoresis, transfections, purification of recombinant proteins, Western and Northern blotting, PCR, including real time PCR,conventional and NextGen sequencing, and fluorescent microscopy. The research component will constitute approximately 50% of the effort. A part of the duties will be ordering lab supplies, maintaining equipment, communicating with vendors and facilities, and supervision of lab assistants (50% effort). Theoretical and practical training will be provided as necessary. Individuals considering future graduate or medical careers may be afforded an opportunity to pursue independent research projects potentially leading to scientific publications. Must have a bachelor degree in Molecular or Cell Biology or Biochemistry. Practical experience in a Molecular Biology or related disciplines research laboratory required.

The following practical skills and knowledge are required: Knowledge of microbiology, biochemistry and molecular genetics. Preparation of chemical solutions and media. Sterile cell culture techniques. Experience with recombinant DNA and PCR. Experience growing bacterial cultures and other cultures, Electrophoresis, Word processing and research record keeping.
