The Southern Oregon Agricultural Research & Extension Center (SOREC) invites applications for a full-time (1.00 FTE), 12-month, Southern Oregon Agricultural Research & Extension Center (SOREC) Reappointment is at the discretion of the Director.
The Southern Oregon Agricultural Research & Extension Center (SOREC) is located Central Point, OR.
The purpose of this position is to assist research in Plant Pathology. The focus of this work is on integrated disease management of tree fruits and wine grape diseases in Southern Oregon. Travel is required across Jackson, Josephine, and Douglas counties to research sites and off-site locations for project meetings with growers or vineyard managers.
Requires Bachelor’s degree in discipline appropriate to the field in which research is being conducted.
Bachelor's Degree in Plant Pathology, Microbiology, or related field.
Experience working in a laboratory, field, and greenhouse using plant pathology techniques.
Possess/acquire pesticide applicator’s license within 6 months of hire date.
Demonstrated ability to learn and follow scientific protocols.
Must be proficient in basic lab techniques such as making buffers, media preparation, centrifugation, pipetting, and weighing.
Must be exceptionally detail-oriented, organized, and maintain a clean working environment.
Demonstrated ability in data organization, management, analysis, and communications using Microsoft Office suite or similar software.
Ability to work with minimal supervision and delegate to others.
Ability to occasionally work on weekends or after regular working hours.
This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a Criminal History Check and be determined to be position qualified as per OSU Standard 576-055-0000 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in Youth Programs may have additional Criminal History Checks every 24 months.
This position requires driving a University vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the University; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a Motor Vehicle History Check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver's license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions (as per Voluntary and Compulsory Driver Standards OSU Standard 125-155-0200) as per OSU 576-056-0000 et seq.
This position requires field work outdoors in warm and cold weather, as well as inside in a lab environment. Employee may have to stand or sit for several hours at a time and lift up to 50 lbs. Work schedule could vary with possible evening and weekend work. Travel is necessary due to the combination of office and field work.
