Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
The Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition at Iowa State University is accepting applications for a 12-month, full time Program Coordinator position who will assist with the North Central Regional Center for Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) training. The selected candidate will work alongside a Food Safety Extension and Outreach Faculty member to ensure goals and objectives are reached, as outlined in the grant. The candidate will maintain an office on Iowa State University campus in order to correspond with the team daily.
Duties for this Program Coordinator position include working with the IT team to maintain website functionality; managing the contact database of participating growers and partners; keeping grant members apprised of internal and external communication activities and opportunities via participation in all team meetings; managing all conference calls, including recording and posting all meeting minutes; assisting with organizing, scheduling, and preparing meetings for partners and stakeholder groups; serving as the primary project contact for media, public, and group member inquiries; developing, designing, and copy-editing promotional materials, reports, and publications; assisting with meeting specific grant objectives, milestones, and activities; providing progress updates on a monthly basis for the team and for the annual report; working with accountant to provide financial updates and communicate findings with team; and assisting with dissemination of developed materials.
The successful candidate will be detail-oriented and possess project management skills; the ability to communicate effectively (both orally and in writing) with all team members and the general public; effective interpersonal skills; and the ability to work collaboratively. In addition, the candidate will have the ability to lead, motivate, direct, train, and provide resources to staff members of the unit. The selected candidate will possess the ability to identify project risks and engage appropriate resources to manage and resolve issues. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills with a focus on directing work, and good time management skills so projects stay on task and deadlines are met.
This position requires infrequent travel to attend national and state conferences.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of related experience; OR a Master’s degree; OR a combination of education and/or related experience totaling 6 years unless otherwise specified under supplemental required education and experience. Experience must be at a comparable level and directly related to the duties of this position.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Degree in business, management, administration, communication, or similar program of study
Experience as a project coordinator, project manager, or administrative assistant
Experience working with web-based technology for meetings such as Skype for Business, WebEx, or Zoom
Experience with newsletter and mailing lists such as Constant Contact or MailChimp
Experience with social media management such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram
Fruit and vegetable industry knowledge
Experience working with academia and industry partners
