: We are seeking a year round R&D undergraduate student who must be able to work on site at SNL\-NM several times a week during regular business hours\. On any given day, you may be called on to: + Collect data from Additive Manufacturing Tool Diagnostics and Process Controls which may include Powder Bed, LENS, and/or Direct Write Tools+ Evaluate and modify data generated from thermal and mechanical property tests of AM materials+ Relate data to process controls and diagnostics using MATLAB or other software packages+ Organize data from AM tools and property tests; This includes use of GRANTA \(developing importers and exporters for the database, storing data\) Required: The successful candidate must meet the following Sandia Student Intern Requirements: Official acceptance into an accredited university's undergraduate program, full\-time enrollment \(typically 12 credit hours\), a minimum cumulative GPA of 3\.2/4\.0, the ability to work up to 25 hours per week during the academic year, and up to 40 hours per week during the summer\. U\.S\. citizenship\. + Undergraduate Student \(Sophomore or Junior \) in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or related field\.+ Must have completed basic chemistry and basic physics\.+ Laboratory courses, and intro to engineering\.+ Experience with data collection and using spreadsheets \(Excel\)\. Department Description: The Coatings and Additive Manufacturing Department provides scientific and engineering expertise in the areas of thin films, thermal spray deposition, cold spray deposition, vacuum system/component fabrication, laser machining and surface modification, precision engineering, and additive manufacturing for the Laboratories\. Over 25 elements as well as numerous compounds and alloys can be deposited by sputter deposition and electron beam evaporation\. Thin film properties can also be characterized\. Thermal spray capabilities include both conventional \(flame, plasma, twin\-wire arc, HVOF\) and advanced technologies: cold spray and low pressure plasma spray\. Precision engineering includes the design and fabrication of miniature and meso\-scale devices, electrical discharge machining \(EDM\), diamond and laser machining, laser etching, micro\-metrology, as well as technical consulting\. Additive manufacturing encompasses both direct write \(aerosol ink jet printing, extrusion casting, and conformal printing\) and metal additive \(powder bed and LENS\)\.
