The RN Infection Preventionist leads the program for Infection Control/Prevention activities. The position also oversees infection surveillance, education, control and prevention as well as performing Employee Health functions when necessary.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Prepares, analyzes and submits reports related to infection control programs to meet state and federal compliance. Reports include: monthly reports for NHSN reporting of CDI & MRSA lab events; quarterly CMS data including , global and VTE measures; annual reporting of structural measures, web based measures and PC measures; annual reporting for HCW influenza compliance.
Provides infection surveillance. Sends and reviews MD infection letters, review microbiology reports to determine if infections were present at the time of admission. Conducts infection investigations on all hospital associated infections and monitors SPD & decontamination practices.
Responsible for monitoring infection prevention practices, hand hygiene compliance including WHO and CDC guidelines, and cleaning of hospital equipment.
Provides post-operative consultation and recommendations to physicians regarding HAI information. Provides post exposure care recommendations and ensures effective communication of information between surgeon and physicians.
Provides employee health services including employee clinics and immunizations. Responsible for pre-employment drug screening program.
Manages worker’s compensation program for occupations injuries and blood borne exposures. Ensures all employees receive appropriate medical care for work-related incidents, reports incidents to the insurance carrier, ensures that post-injury urine drug screen is completed and ensures that all required paperwork is completed in an accurate and timely manner.
Responsible for OSHA logs including the OSHA 300 and 301reports. Posts OSHA 300A summary on an annual basis. Maintains sharps log and reports related injuries to the TDH. Reports all related information to the Safety Committee on a quarterly basis
Education & Training:
An Associate’s Degree is required.
A minimum of three years experience required
Licenses / Certifications:
Registered Nurse in the State of Texas Certification in Infection Prevention and Control required Basic Cardiac Life Support
