Description Tufts Environmental Health and Safety (Tufts EHS) is assigned the responsibility to provide expert advice, guidance and direction to all members of the University community in all areas of occupational, environmental and public health including art safety, biological safety, fire safety, radiation safety, chemical safety, laboratory safety and shop safety. To achieve these goals, Tufts EHS operates four programs: Research Health and Safety, Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Management and Public Health. Tufts EHS is a division of the Department of Public and Environmental Safety. Tufts EHS has strong partnerships with the Vice Provost for Research, Facilities Services, University Police, Emergency Management, Fire Safety, Risk Management and Student Health Services to provide a safe and sustainable workplace and living space and to achieve compliance with all applicable codes, regulations and other mandatory directives in the areas of safety and environmental protection. The Senior Industrial Hygienist is responsible for providing expert advice and technical services to Tufts faculty and staff in all areas of industrial hygiene: hazard identification, evaluation and control to prevent occupational disease and assure compliance with applicable health protection regulations and standards.

Qualifications Basic Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in science, engineering, industrial hygiene or other directly related technical field; certification by the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (Certified Industrial Hygienist).
Competency in chemistry required based on classroom and laboratory experience and field experience.
Minimum of two years' comparable work experience in an academic or research environment. Preferred Qualifications:
Graduate level training in chemistry, toxicology or industrial hygiene or related field preferred and could substitute for 1 year of experience.
Experience with a software based chemical materials inventory management system is preferred.
Excellent verbal presentation skills with competence in developing content and presentation methods in all formats including lecture and on-line training. Special Work Schedule Requirements: May occasionally require work at nights, weekends and holidays to respond to emergencies or other time critical events and tasks. May require occasional evening and weekend hours in order to provide training and demonstrations to employees with novel work schedules.
