Reporting to the to the Assistant Vice President for Environmental Health and Safety, the Business Operations Manager leads and manages the financial, reporting, and human resource operations for the Environmental Health and Safety Groups, Occupational Safety, Laboratory Safety, Biological Safety and Radiation Safety. Develops and implements policies, procedures, and processes to effectively manage the financial, administrative and business operations of the units consistent with established state and university policies. Oversees the development of annual operating budgets for twelve areas ($3.4M), prepares short and long-term expense forecasts for financial planning. Leads the development of business plans to support future initiatives. The Business Operations Manager provides oversight to the department's operational processes, including: financial management, human resources, procurement, and fixed assets, and manages OnSite, the department's software for inspection scheduling. Independently gathers facts, analyzes findings, and develops conclusions and recommendations for the AVP. Applies knowledge of programs, operations, and administrative policies and procedures to ensure compliance across EHS's business operations. Uses excellent judgment and decision-making skills to ensure the integrity and professionalism of all of the department's processes, procedures, and work products. Maintains a professional and customer-service-oriented demeanor in all interactions with diverse clientele. Supervises staff. Manages special projects and prepares reports for the Assistant Vice President.
-Bachelor's degree in business, public administration or related field and/or equivalent level of training and experience
-Demonstrated leadership skills and substantial work experience in supervisory role of a business unit.
-Experience preparing and managing large complex budgets and reports.
-Experience developing and implementing standard operating procedures for departmental business functions.
-Proficiency in general computer skills and Microsoft applications such as Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
-Excellent organizational, interpersonal, communication, and time management skills.
-The successful candidate must have the ability to: interpret and apply policies and procedures; work with confidential and sensitive material and information—including financial data; and work independently and in a team environment to handle complex projects, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines. Ability to communicate and interact effectively with co-workers, subordinates, and the public. Excellent organizational and time management skills. Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
-Working knowledge of Banner and PeopleAdmin.
-Previous experience working in an educational environment.
-Experience using financial and/or human resource centered databases and/or systems.
