A Postdoctoral Research Associate position is open in Dr. Hui Zong's laboratory (firstname.lastname@example.org) at the Center for Cell Signaling, University of Virginia, to create and utilize mouse genetic tools to study glia functions in normal and cancer settings.
Research projects will include establishing and utilizing highly specific genetic tools to investigate intrinsic molecular mechanisms and extrinsic cell-cell interactions for normal glia functions and how defective signaling leads to initiation and progression of malignant glioma. The Postdoctoral Research Associate will work independently on the projects, spending approximately 90% of the time conducting experiments and analyzing data, 5% on training graduate students, and 5% on writing manuscripts and grants. It is expected that the Research Associate will report research progress regularly in lab and collaborative meetings, present results and solicit input at local, national, and international conferences in the form of posters or oral presentations, and prepare figures and text for manuscripts with the Principal Investigator's input.
The position requires a PhD degree in Developmental Genetics, Cancer Biology, Neuroscience, or a related area in hand at time of hire with a strong publication record in these areas. A minimum of three years of experience with full proficiency in techniques including mouse genetic models for human cancers or neurological diseases, BAC and ES cell-based transgenics, immunohistological and RNA in situ hybridization analysis in tissue sections, and confocal microscopy and image analysis, etc., and experience in primary cell culture, stereotaxic brain injection, and intravital imaging are preferred. The successful candidate will have excellent organizational, written and verbal communication skills, and can work independently or in a team setting. The hiring start date will occur on or after July 1, 2014.
