Postdoctoral fellow positions are immediately available to study metabolism and signaling of sphingolipids in the eye with Dr. Nawajes Mandal in the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, Memphis, TN. Highly motivated, recently graduated Ph.D. with expertise in biochemistry, cellular and molecular biology and experience in retina/eye research and rodent models are encouraged to apply.
Ph.D. with a strong background in biological sciences (biochemistry, cell biology, molecular biology, microbiology, immunology, and physiology).
Research experience with laboratory mouse and rats.
Experience with eye and retina research.
Exposure to studies on cell signal transduction, inflammation, cell death and apoptosis, vascular development and neovascularization.
Basic understanding of and experience with PCR, gene cloning, site-directed mutagenesis, gel electrophoresis, Southern blots, Northern blots and RNA isolation, siRNA, in-situ hybridization, cellular transfection, tissue culture, FACS, confocal microscopy, viral gene delivery system, ELISA assays, Western blot analysis, protein-protein interactions, cell proliferation assays, cytotoxicity assays etc. Familiarity with database searches, understanding and application of statistics, and image analyses.
Good communication and writing skills.
