We are looking for a full-time technician to participate in their research in algal biology. The person hired will be the primary person responsible for the maintenance of laboratory cultures of noninfectious algae and the supervision of a stock culture library in addition to carrying out molecular biological experiments.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Preparation of microbiological growth media and other solutions and buffers
Routine lab chores, including cleaning and autoclaving flasks and test tubes and sterilizing pipette tips
Ordering laboratory supplies
Directed research, including plasmid construction and running DNA gels
Perform other duties as assinged
Undergraduate degree or high school diploma with appropriate laboratory experience in handling microbiological cultures.
Responsibilities of this position include maintenance and handling of non-infectious photosynthetic bacterail cell cultures.
Understanding of basic laboratory techniques, interest in learning additional laboratory skills, and desire to participate in biological research are required.
Ability to work and participate in a large lab group setting and to handle concurrent tasks are necessary.
Knowledge of and adherence to sterile technique are required, as is familiarity with Scientific /English terminology.
This is an entry level position appropriate for an individual with some experience interested in acquiring additional skills.
The hiring range for this position is $13.52 - $18.25 per hour.
