Post-doctoral positions are available for scientists in molecular biology, biology, biochemistry, and chemistry to perform clinical translation research. Join a multi-disciplinary research team in the emerging field of molecular imaging at the University of Michigan (https://sites.google.com/a/umich.edu/wang_lab). This highly collaborative group aims to develop innovative imaging technologies to improve the practice of medicine. Projects focus on the development, characterization, and validation of peptides for clinical use as specific molecular probes for early detection and image-guided therapy of cancer. Projects focus on 1) use of sophisticated genomic tools to identify early targets that arise in the development of esophageal cancer, 2) development of peptide dimers to produce multivalent ligand-target interactions for improved binding performance and detection of early targets at low levels of expression, and 3) clinical translation of integrated imaging approach. High resolution endoscopic, confocal, multiphoton, and photoacoustic imaging systems will be used to study small animal models. Our goal is to perform real-time detection of pre-malignant mucosa (dysplasia) in the biliary tract, colon, esophagus, liver, pancreas, and stomach. FDA-regulated clinical studies will be performed to validate peptide performance in human patients in collaboration with academic physicians. Candidates with a Ph.D. in molecular biology, structural biology, cell biology, genetics, biochemistry, chemistry, microbiology, immunology, pharmacology, or related discipline are invited to apply. Experience in molecular biology techniques is required, including any of these areas: cell culture, microscopy, flow cytometry, siRNA knockdown, structural protein modeling, ELISA, PCR, RT-PCR, Western blot, immunohistochemistry, and immunofluorescence. Experience with handling of small animals, including mice and rats, is desirable. Salary is commensurate with training and experience.
