JOB TITLE: Junior Specialist I

POSITION AVAILABLE: Junior Specialist position. Full time; duration 1 year, with possibility of renewal. Laboratory 1, Department of Plant Pathology and Microbiology, UC Riverside.

NATURE AND PURPOSE:
A) Conduct research on new aspects of continuing projects under supervision of Principal Investigator.
B) Design lab and greenhouse laboratory experiments and methodologies, data analysis and interpretation of results, statistical analysis of data.
C) Perform molecular biology techniques such as DNA extraction, PCR.
D) Support other lab personnel with various research projects.
E) The specialist will also play a key role in lab management activities involving maintenance of culture collections, lab supply inventory and general lab organization.
I) Lab, Greenhouse and Field Experiment Support (70%)
II) Data Maintenance and Analysis (30%)
A) Maintain records of all results of laboratory and greenhouse experiments, enter them into computer spreadsheets and databases, and conduct simple analyses to illustrate results.
B) Maintain regular communication with other laboratory personnel, students, trainees, visitors, and the Principal Investigator.
C) Keep detailed records of laboratory greenhouse techniques.
D) Follow written protocols for methods developed during the course of the lab project.

REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's Degree in Plant Sciences, Microbiology or other related field of study.

- Master’s Degree in Plant Pathology, Microbiology, Biology, or Plant Sciences
- Experience in lab work
