Duties and Responsibilities:
The University of Houston, College of Optometry seeks an outstanding clinician scientist to work within the College's Ocular Surface Institute. This is a tenure-track position for an Assistant, Associate or Full Professor in the Department of Clinical Sciences. Preference will be given to individuals who have demonstrated the ability to lead research teams.
Vision researchers at the University of Houston, College of Optometry comprise a well-funded, vibrant and interactive community. Current faculty of The Ocular Surface Institute are engaged in research in dry eye, ocular surface immunity and inflammation, wound healing, optical design and material sciences. The Ocular Surface Institute boasts state of the art facilities for patient-based research including an environmental chamber as well as excellent laboratory facilities for cell and molecular studies and in vivo and in vitro imaging. The College is seeking individuals who will complement and broaden its research strengths in the arena of ocular surface research. These areas could include optics and visual performance, microbiology, clinical trials involving contact lenses, accommodation and presbyopia, or any combination thereof.
The successful applicant will have a Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree and additional advanced degrees (MS, PhD). The faculty member will join the College's internationally recognized clinical and research faculty (see http://www.opt.uh.edu/) and will teach optometric and graduate students in didactic and clinical settings, and be expected to conduct an independent, externally funded research program.
Salary and faculty rank will be commensurate with the candidate's qualifications.
