University of California, San Francisco Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics The Chou laboratory in the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics at University of California San Francisco has an opening for an Associate Specialist. This position will be research focused and involve bacterial pathogenesis-based research, tick–animal work, data analysis, and lab management. We seek a more senior-level candidate that is able to drive their own research as well as provide mentorship to other lab members. Candidate should have strong quantitative analysis skills, the ability to multi-task and organize effectively, and attention to detail. Experience in microbiology required.
Required qualifications: • Ph.D. in life sciences • Two years of postdoctoral experience • A minimum of one year experience in lab management • Attention to details, fast learner, cooperative, dependable • Ability to think creatively, problem solve efficiently and independently • Ability to manage multiple task and priorities • Ability to maintain accurate and thorough records • At least two years experience in spirochete microbial genetics • Familiarity with the experimental murine model of tick-borne pathogen transmission • Ability to think quantitatively about biological problems • Ability to maintain accurate and thorough records
Preferred qualifications: • Fluency in lab management applications, including Quartzy and Slack • Experience in lab ordering and budget management • Familiarity with protein expression and purification • Commitment of two years strongly desired • Ability to communicate with a wide variety of personnel, including students, postdocs, technicians, administrative staff, and vendor representatives.
Appointees in the Specialist series will be expected to engage in specialized research, professional activities and do not have teaching responsibilities. Specialists are expected to use their professional expertise to make scientific and scholarly contributions, and may participate in University and Public Service.
