The Staff Research Associate will assist the Principal Investigator (PI) in performing experiments aimed at understanding developmental patterning using Drosophilia as a model to understand human disease processes. Duties will include the following: conducting experiments utilizing CRISPR/Cas9 technology through routine biochemistry and molecular biology procedures such as DNA isolation, recombination-based cDNA cloning, bacterial transformation and growth, protein purification, Western-blotting, etc.
The incumbent will also oversee the overall maintenance of the lab which includes ordering laboratory reagents, cataloging reagents, maintaining an inventory of plasmid, cell, and antibody stocks, as well as maintaining common laboratory stock solutions. In addition, when appropriate, the incumbent will assist in the preparation of scientific manuscripts based on experiments performed and participate in laboratory meetings and journal discussions.
Must be able to work a flexible schedule and overtime that may include occasional evenings and weekends as required by experiments.

Experience with Drosophilia as a research model.
Experience with molecular biology and protein techniques such as cloning, protein gel electrophoresis, and Western blotting.
Experience in the preparation of scientific reagents including common buffers and stock solutions.
Knowledge and experience with laboratory equipment such as centrifuges, micro-pipettes, biosafety cabinets, incubators, autoclaves, balances, pH meters, and microscopes.
Theoretical knowledge of biochemistry, molecular biology, immunology and genetics, including relevant laboratory techniques, acquired through a Bachelor's Degree in biology or related field; and/or equivalent combination of education and laboratory experience.
Excellent interpersonal communication skills to interact well with others to facilitate communication about lab requirements including ability to discuss and understand day-to-day laboratory affairs, research plans, results and ideas with PI and other lab personnel in a constructive, professional and pleasant manner.
Proven ability to develop, follow and troubleshoot established lab protocols and lab procedures with direction from PI. Proven ability to prioritize and schedule experiments and duties to maximize efficiency.
Demonstrated ability to contribution to the preparation and editing of scientific papers, manuscripts, and lab data. Experience presenting research to formal audience.
Excellent organizational skills including ability to keep clear and accurate records, organize a varied workload, follow written and oral protocols and give oral presentations on the progress of research in lab meetings.
Proven skill and knowledge to proactively maintain an organized lab and stocks of essential supplies and media, purchase new equipment, and ensure lab equipment is operating effectively.
Proven knowledge of MSDS's (Material Data Safety Sheets) and the hazard communication and Injury and Illness and Prevention Program (IIPP).
Knowledge of laboratory safety precautions including appropriate clothing, safe handling of chemicals, and the use of protective items, with the ability to train and oversee others.
Proven ability to maintain confidentiality in matters related to work. Willingness and ability to embrace and consistently uphold the principles of community for a collaborative work environment.
