The Primate Center has an outstanding opportunity for a Research Scientist Engineer 3. Under general supervision of the Mucosal Immunology Care Director this position will be responsible for:
Managing the mucosal immunology core of WaNPRC
Managing the LSRII, including overseeing the schedule, coordinating repairs and QC with BD, stocking reagents, etc.
Managing the MIC repository, including coordinating with collaborators, maintaining inventory, and processing and storing samples for repository
Lead efforts to develop novel mucosal immunity and microbiome strategies in NHP
Additional responsibilities include:
Sampling processing human and nonhuman primate blood, lymphoid, liver and mucosal tissues
Independently perform lab techniques as needed (flow cytometry, ELISA, etc.)
Perform analysis of data and assist with trouble shooting and daily quality control of data, and present in lab meetings
Keep detailed records of procedures performed.
Provide status reports to the Principal Investigator on status of projects and spending.
Coordination of studies with vet staff, MIC directors, and collaborators
Assist with writing and maintaining IACUC, BUA and IRB applications
Basic lab maintenance and helping with lab paperwork and certifications.
Attention to procedural detail and meticulous record-keeping.
Supervision of lab members.
Training of techniques and safety procedures to lab members.
Maintain updated knowledge base of lab related studies via reading scientific articles and attending seminars and journal clubs, training classes and meetings
Perform related duties as required.

Bachelor's degree in biomedical sciences (i.e. biology, microbiology, immunology, or virology), MS or PhD in biomedical sciences preferred
Expertise and >5 years of experience in laboratory biomedical research.
Expertise in data analysis, using the computer programs excel, prism, flowjo and adobe illustrator.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except where there are legal requirements such as license/certification/registration.
Expertise and background in immunology, microbiology or molecular biology.
Training in flow cytometry, PCR, ELISA, high throughput sequencing, bioinformatics, tissue processing.
Experience in mucosal immunology and non-human primate or human mucosal tissue processing and research.
