The Department of Laboratory Medicine serves as a regional resource for clinical laboratory services required for patient care, research and educational programs in laboratory medicine. Our Laboratory Support Services - Microbiology has an outstanding opportunity for a full-time Medical Laboratory Scientist Lead. The person in this role will:
Maintain theoretical, technical and administrative expertise for all procedures and duties within assigned section, and completes all tasks associated within their assigned section efficiently and accurately.
Contributes to the development of training logs for all of the tests performed in the section.
Provides daily leadership in the section to which they are assigned, and communicates with the staff, manager and directors regarding important issues relating to their assigned section as needed.
Continues education by attending Lab Medicine related seminars, in- services, staff meetings and/or by reading scientific journals, and participating in CAP proficiency surveys.
Maintains competency in all sections where they have been trained. (Bacteriology, Set up, Yeast, Mold, UA, Parasitology, Environmental, Antibiotics, MDX).
Knowledge in CAP and JCAHO regulations and is responsible for assessing, initiating, and monitoring the compliance within the section and/or laboratory.
Initiates and oversees all aspects of Quality Assurance within the section including QC, maintenance documentation, procedure writing, review/update, etc.
In the absence of the manager or laboratory director, represents the laboratory and can formulate independent decisions (ex's. include monitoring daily staffing and reassigning personnel if necessary; reviewing and signing time cards; and authorizing overtime).
instructs new employees, medical technology students, residents, and post- doctoral fellows in routine procedures and is patient and tolerant with them.

Accredited Bachelor's Degree in Medical Laboratory Science OR equivalent education/experience
Medial Laboratory Science certification with the American Society for Clinical Pathology or equivalent, or certification with a specialty organization appropriate to the laboratory division
Three years of professional experience including one year as a Medical Laboratory Scientist 2 or equivalent
