General DescriptionDepartment: Oncology Monday-Friday 8:30a.m.-5:00p.m. 40 hrs.
Under the general supervision of faculty investigators this laboratory technician is responsible for performing analyses and experiments related to improving cancer therapy or detection. Work requires use of scientific methods, bioinformatics protocols, and techniques gained through previous training and experience. The planned experiments involve tissue culture of cancer cells, small animal procedures, preclinical drug development, computational biology analysis and molecular biology such as: purifications; quantitative and qualitative analyses, PCR and western blotting.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Performs laboratory tests utilizing requisite lab equipment and instruments, and perform data analysis under the supervision of the laboratory director and laboratory manager.
Experience with experimental animals (rodents) is helpful for this position, which include anesthesia, physiological and behavioral monitoring, performing injections, and record keeping. Prepares tissue for study utilizing histochemical techniques. Injects animals according to protocols. May work with in vivo models in experiments.
Performs laboratory tests and/or experiments following established procedures or protocols. Operates requisite laboratory equipment and instruments; records data; maintains and adjustments to equipment.
Assists in compliance for laboratory safety and other regulatory requirements.
Experience or training with the above laboratory and computer skills are sought for this position.
Maintain and make minor adjustments to equipment, e.g. calibrating, alignment.
Prepares solutions, reagents, and stains following standard laboratory formulas and procedures.
General computer skills in Windows environments with experience with Microsoft Office, data entry, data analysis, data reporting and maintenance of laboratory databases.
General computer skills in Linux environment with working knowledge of a scripting (e.g., bash) and programming languages (e.g., Phython, C++).
Operates laboratory equipment such as centrifuge, thermocycler, pH meter, analytical balance, light microscope, and/or utilizes laminar flow hoods.
