Description This is a grant funded position and is not eligible for severance pay. Members of the department are actively engaged in research on fundamental and medically related problems in microbiology and molecular genetics. They include the genetics and biochemistry of bacterial and fungal pathogens and their interaction with host cells, the mode of action of antibiotics and drug resistance, the intracellular organization of bacteria, mechanisms of transcriptional regulation, mechanisms of virus entry, gene expression, replication and assembly Under supervision of the principal investigator and a senior scientist who is intimately familiar with the techniques required, the Research Technician will conduct a variety of experiments following established procedures/protocols, which may include culturing mammalian cells, performing electrophoresis or PCR, extracting DNA, and other well established laboratory techniques. In these capacities, the Technician will also record test results and analyze data using basic statistics. In addition, the Technician may monitor the functioning of laboratory equipment, organize and maintain logbooks and supplies, and assist in monitoring animal colonies.

Qualifications Basic Requirements: Bachelor's degree in science. Up to 1 year laboratory experience. Preferred Qualifications: Familiarity with basic laboratory techniques and procedures. Excellent organizational and communication skills are critical. Knowledge of MS Office products, basic statistical analysis and computation is necessary. Previous experience working with small research animals, microbiology and/or molecular biology techniques are preferred. Special Work Schedule Requirements: May work with and be exposed to hazardous chemicals and materials, pathogens, human/animal tissue and fluids, radiation.
