DESCRIPTIONThe Division of Infectious Diseases and Global Public Health within the Department of Medicine at UC San Diego aims to eliminate the burdens of infectious diseases and health disparities by delivering outstanding patient care, conducting world-class multidisciplinary health research, directing the institutional response to antimicrobial resistance, preventable healthcare associated infections, and emerging pathogens, and offering leadership, consultation and training on global public health, gender equity, microbiology, and infectious diseases topics. Supervises staff responsible for working with departments, staff, patients and families in using clinical research techniques. May assume full responsibility for the research in delegated studies. Receives assignments in the form of objectives with goals and the processes by which to attain them. Supervises daily operations, and performance requirements. Has full oversight for staffing, performance management, and programmatic workflow of project. Under the direction of the Clinical Operations Director, incumbent serves as the Clinical Research HIV Testing Supervisor, will supervise and coordinate HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) testing within the Primary Infection Research Consortium (PIRC) at the Antiviral Research Center (AVRC). HIV testing will be performed by research assistants at the AVRC; at the "Good to Go" offsite location; as well as various venues around San Diego County working with the mobile testing van. Duties include supervising the day to day operations of HIV and STI (sexually transmitted infections) testing as well as recruiting, consenting and following patients with new HIV infections and advising/educating patients on best health practices including antiviral medications and treatment for STI's. Incumbent is responsible for supervising the HIV and STI testing project including oversight with consenting research subjects, data collection, phlebotomy, STI testing, STI results and dissemination of study results to testing clients. Additional duties will include recruiting, consenting and following patients with new HIV infections and advising/educating patients on best health practices including antiviral medications and treatment for STI's for longitudinal follow up. Collects research patient data, completes case report forms and analyzes data entry as necessary. Organize and manage inpatient and outpatient functions as assigned. Collaborates with other research partners both within the Infectious Disease Division and UCSD campus. Review protocols, and attend in-service presentations for new protocols. Attends weekly HIV and Global Health Rounds. Advise research personnel on proper nursing skills required to perform research studies. Participate in quality management and patient safety practices as it applies to the PIRC program. Work on special projects as assigned by Principal Investigators and Administrative Nurse. In addition will perform as necessary phlebotomy, antiretroviral drug administration and education, investigational drug administration, intravenous medication infusions, assisting with various procedures, monitoring vital signs, IV insertions, pharmacokinetic specimen collections, ECGs and scheduling and facilitating other diagnostic testing. Assist Principal Investigators in the conduct of research by providing nursing expertise on the recruitment, treatment, patient education, and monitoring of patients involved in HIV testing, clinical trials and other research studies. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSA Bachelor's Degree in related area. Graduate from an accredited school of Nursing. Current State of California Registered Nurse (RN) license. Minimally six (6) months of clinical experience working with Infectious Disease/HIV patients. BLS/CPR certification at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six (6) months of hire date. A minimum of five (5+) or more years of relevant experience. Broad knowledge of clinical or laboratory research and clinical research philosophy. Ability to translate clinical research philosophy into business best practices in a trial setting. Strong project management skills.
