Location: Hyde Park Campus Job Description: Job Summary: The Research Specialist performs complex technical duties relating to microbiology, molecular biology, biochemistry and cell biology with bacterial pathogens, develops assays and performs record-keeping. Responsibilities: - Performs laboratory organization and ordering (10%)
- Develops and performs assays and performs record-keeping (40%)
- Performs mammalian and protest cell culture (10%)
- Performs molecular cloning and PCR (20%)
- Performs purification and expression of proteins (10%)
- Performs cell biology imaging experiments (fluorescence and EM) (10%)
- Performs work in BSL-2 conditions
- Maintains all safety training

Education, Experience or Certifications: Education: - Bachelorâ™s degree or equivalent in a biological or chemical science required
Experience: - Preferred: Working experience in molecular microbiology, genetics or biochemistry
Technical Knowledge or Skills: - Knowledge of computers, including Microsoft Word and Excel
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements: - Must be sighted and able to read and write
- Must have good manual dexterity and color discrimination
- Must have ability to perform fine motor tasks
- Must have ability to exert 10-25 pounds of force and work with hands
- Must be able to read the scientific literature and keep abreast of technical developments
- Duties are varied and require high organizational ability, careful record-keeping, precise usage of instruments, and an ability to handle multiple tasks
