Our LABORATORY MEDICINE DEPARTMENT has an outstanding full-time position for a Research Scientist 2. The person in this role will serve as a Research Scientist 2 in the Greninger Laboratory to perform research looking at viral replication, viral-host protein-protein interactions, drug efficacy, viral evolution, and viral genome sequencing. Responsibilities include laboratory organization and management, analyzing sequencing data, making figures, drafting of manuscripts and grants for submission, executive wet-lab experiments, creation and implementation of new procedures and standard operation procedures, and scientific data archiving. The employee will be expected to attend and present at laboratory meetings.
Organization of laboratory including chemical and biological safety, ordering, and processing orders
Writing, editing, and submission manuscripts
Sequencing and proteomic analysis
Independently execute documented protocols for quantitative viral detection on research and clinical specimens
Perform molecular procedures including but not limited to real-time PCR, sanger sequencing, PCR product detection DNA sequencing and next generation sequencing;
Prepare chemical, DNA, and RNA reagents used in laboratory assays;
Engage in developing novel assays, modifying and refining procedures and techniques to obtain optimal results;
Present and update research progress at lab meeting or joined group settings;
Optimize protocols and troubleshoot experiments are necessary to generate relevant data and improve data quality;
Assist in identifying research project goals; initiates small to moderate size program/projects; work is organized and prioritized appropriately;
Assignments and projects are completed within specified time frame; deadlines are consistently met;
Lead projects of a small to moderate size and scope; make substantial contributions to determining feasibility of goals and objectives;
Train and monitor new employees and guest technicians in experimental procedures and assays, laboratory safety and database maintenance;
Coordinate gatekeeper responsibilities for sample repository;
Perform work accurately, precisely and meets test completion deadlines. Accommodates schedule changes to cooperatively accomplish required daily work;
Contribute data and analyses for grant submissions and assist in the preparation of publications and presentations;
Analyze issues and projects thoroughly, considers all factors; obtains and uses resources as necessary;
Maintain and complete accurate, legible records. Thoroughly documents any modifications;
Provide ongoing feedback; identify development opportunities and actively solicit collaborative projects with other research scientists;
Perform Other Duties As Required.
Education requirement, minimum: Bachelor’s Degree in Life Science (including biology, microbiology, zoology, etc.,)
2-3 years of working experience in molecular biology related field.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for stated requirements.
Experience with PCR testing methods and sequencing technologies;
Good laboratory practice (GLP) skills.
Conditions of Employment:
Will be considered essential staff and as such will be required to report to work when scheduled despite inclement weather.
Must be able to meet with all shifts on a regular basis.
May work weekends and holidays.
May be asked to work hours beyond normal open hours of the laboratory depending on staffing needs and current testing requirements.
