Reporting directly to the Finance Manager, this position provides life-cycle grants management support to sponsored research portfolios of senior faculty members and trainees in the Department of Microbiology. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: assisting with grant and fellowship applications by developing the budget, providing hands-on guidance and reviewing for accuracy and completeness; developing and maintaining accurate financial projections for faculty members, proactively suggesting alternative spending plans; authorizing payments and procurement transactions for all lab expenditures; reconciling financial accounts on a monthly basis, and managing effort certifications. Additional responsibilities include ensuring compliance with federal, state, granting agency and university policies and funding regulations and communicating policy updates to faculty and lab personnel; escalating issues and concerns to the Finance Manager in a timely manner; working directly with the HR coordinator to set up new appointments, process terminations, coordinate visa applications and renewals, and submit payroll changes. Performs related job duties as required.

2+ years of grants management or related experience required
Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting strongly preferred. Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and demonstrated research administration experience in an academic or non-profit environment preferred. Excellent organizational, verbal, problem solving and interpersonal skills required. Must be able to take initiative and manage multiple projects simultaneously with frequent deadlines in an interactive environment. Excellent attention to detail is critical.
