The Stauffer Lab (https://stauffer.pitt.edu) is seeking an experienced and motivated scientist. The successful candidate will work in the Systems Neuroscience Center and collaborate closely with Dr. Leah Byrne in the University of Pittsburgh Ophthalmology department (https://byrnelab.science) and Dr. Andreas Pfenning in CMU's Computational Biology program ( http://www.pfenninglab.org ).
Together, we maintain a trans-disciplinary research environment that aims to establish cell type- and circuit-specific tools and techniques for use in systems neuroscience research and translational gene therapy applications. Our goals require us to identify cell types in human and nonhuman primate brains, create viral vectors to deliver transgenes to specific cell types, and maintain a repository of vectors and results. We seek an experienced and enthusiastic individual to (1) identify and verify cell types using fluorescent in situ hybridization, immunohistochemistry, and imaging, and (2) produce, store, and distribute viral vectors.
The successful candidate will have significant laboratory experience, graduate level-training (in neuroscience, molecular biology, bioengineering, virology, or a related field), familiarity with data analysis and computational techniques, great organizational skills, and a desire to help us to understand how the brain works. Salary commensurate with education and experience.
MS required; PhD preferred.Experience handling valuable tissue, working in a high-stakes environment, and producing usable data. Experience handling non-human primate and human tissue is preferred. Experience with virus production a major plus. Successful candidate must complete a number of online modules pertaining to laboratory safety and proper research conduct.
