The Amin laboratory in the Science Division, New York University Abu Dhabi, seeks to recruit a Post-Doctoral Associate to work on the mechanisms underlying harmful algal blooms in the Gulf of Mexico (GoM) as part of a large National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) collaboration. The project commences in October 2019 and ends in August 2024.
The successful applicant will drive a fascinating project on the emerging role of bacteria on phytoplankton physiology and bloom formation/demise. Our laboratory uses multi-omics, microbiology, field sampling and microfluidic devices to study phytoplankton ecology, particularly bloom-forming species. The candidate will be involved in culturing harmful algal species and bacteria from GoM samples and apply advanced omic techniques to understand the role bacteria play in promoting or suppressing blooms. The candidate will also participate in annual research cruises in the GoM as well as cruises of opportunity during the course of the project.
Applicants must have a PhD in marine microbiology or a related field. Excellent experimental and in silico skills relevant to the project (in particular microbiology and bioinformatics) are required. Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with scientists from different disciplines are required.
For consideration, applicants need to submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae with full publication list, statement of research interests and three letters of reference, all in PDF format. If you have any questions, please email Prof. Shady Amin at email@example.com.
