The Gene Therapy Program (GTP) is entering a new era of unprecedented opportunity with the great potential to reshape the face of medicine as we know it. Our discoveries have set the stage for successful treatments and possibly even cures for devastating genetic diseases.
The laboratory of Dr. Jim Wilson, at GTP of the University of Pennsylvania, has been a leader in the development of innovative vector technology for close to three decades. We have emerged as the âœgo-toâ organization for public and private partners, who want to participate in the gene therapy space. Currently, we are positioned to lead another round of vector innovation and establish pre-clinical and clinical proof-of-concept in therapeutic applications of in-vivo genome editing.
Continuation of all GTP positions is contingent upon grant funding.
Reporting to the Director, Lab Operations, the Associate Director, Lab Operations shall: â¢ Possess a broad and current understanding of the technical, equipment and materials needs of the GTP research facilities. â¢ Manage ordering, receiving, storage and distribution of research supplies for a 300+ person organization. â¢ Develop/ maintain relationships with the Director, Strategic Sourcing and supply vendors to ensure timely receipt of materials and expeditious resolutions to errors. â¢ Oversee the day-to-day GTP operations including facilities, custodial services, pest control, loading dock oversight, office area support and space/equipment relocations. â¢ Possess a broad and current understanding of chemical, biological and virological safety enabling them to manage laboratory safety policies and procedures and ensure implementation and compliance across GTP. â¢ Oversee lab safety audit program. â¢ Provide supervision for Lab Operations personnel (1-2 direct reports; 2-3 indirect reports). â¢ Provide on-call emergency response for equipment on a rotational basis. Â
The position requirements include: â¢ Bachelor's Degree and 3-5 years of direct laboratory experience, including experience in laboratory management (preferably in the biological sciences). â¢ 2+ years of experience with ordering scientific supplies and equipment and managing supply inventories. â¢ Understanding of BSL2 laboratory safety policies. â¢ Clear and effective written and oral communication skills. â¢ Outstanding organizational and time management skills. â¢ Customer service oriented with the ability to deal with multiple constituencies (faculty, technicians, vendors, University departments, etc.). â¢ Must thrive in a team environment.
Preferred: Knowledge of University of Pennsylvania policies and processes; advanced MS Excel and/or databasing knowledge; familiarity with formal inventory systems. Â
