The Research Technician will provide support for research to include animal (cattle, sheep, goats, and pigs) handling and basic microbiology techniques that include bacterial isolation, identification, and determination of MIC.
Primary duties of the Research Technician include, but are not limited to:
Coordinating pharmacology studies, sample collection, data analysis, manuscript writing (as primary author), drafting grants, and assisting with other research projects.
Planning research projects and keeping up with trends and current developments.
Organizing and maintaining the laboratory space and assisting with training veterinary students, undergraduates, and graduate students rotating through the laboratory.
This position will include teaching and supervising in lab safety, microbiology techniques and appropriate animal care.
There will also be periodic needs for this person to assist with preparation for teaching laboratories which will entail organizing needed supplies and assisting with animal cadaver preparation.
Other duties may include support for teaching including assistance with teaching labs and grading examinations.
Please note that this position will require exposure to both human and animal pathogens.
Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.
Understanding of the role of research support in a veterinary environment.
Ability to collect samples from research subjects or clinical patients.
Ability to administer medications and monitor for any abnormalities.
Ability to perform molecular biology techniques with a willingness to gain new skills.
Must be able to lift 60 lbs, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Two years of experience working with the above listed species (cattle, sheep, goats, and pigs) with some molecular biology training OR two years of experience in a molecular biology lab with some experience working with the above species (cattle, sheep, goats, and pigs).
Required license or certification:
A valid NC Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one within 60 days of employment.
