University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) is currently seeking a Laboratory Research Specialist to join Department of Microbiology and Immunology. The selected candidate will function as a single specialist in a laboratory setting and is responsible for providing the highest technical expertise to research project(s) and overseeing laboratory research activities.

Perform independent project(s) and participate in the design of research studies. Compile, analyze, and interpret research data using various relevant computer software applications.
Administer day-to-day laboratory operations including monitoring the budget, ensuring quality control and safety compliance, developing policies and procedures, and ordering supplies.
Perform laboratory research activities such as: animal infections, recombinant DNA techniques, protein purification, cultures and specimens.
Conduct library research and participates in editing and preparing manuscripts, scientific illustrations and computer graphics for publication. Contribute to the preparation of journal articles and grant proposals.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education: Bachelors in Biology, Chemistry or in a field of study related to the research of the laboratory.
Experience: Three (3) years in laboratory research including two (2) in relevant research specialization.
Other: May consider a combination of directly related experience and education.
