Senior Research Associate Center for Plant Science Innovation University of Nebraska-Lincoln
This is a one-yearpositionwith the option to extend an additional year, but not to exceed a three-year period. It is contingent on the availability of grant funds and subject to satisfactory performance of the incumbent.
The incumbent is expected to perform independently in conducting plant transformations with crop plants to introduce transgenes designed to impact overall plant health and quality of harvested product. The research will include assembling genetic constructs, genetic transformation of plants, and molecular characterization of the derived transformants. In addition to assistance in maintenance, transgenic plants grown under greenhouse and/or field conditions will be required. A Ph.D. degree in the plant sciences is required, with a minimum of 1 year experience conducting plant transformation on a major commodity crop (maize, soybean, sorghum). Molecular biology experience is required.
Research will be conducted in the George W. Beadle Center on the campus of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. The incumbent will consult regularly with the Plant Transformation Core Research Facility team members regarding experimental procedures and results. Research progress will be reported on a quarterly basis and written reports for publication or verbal reports for presentation at appropriate meetings will be prepared with input from the research team. The incumbent is expected to complete all training classes relative to laboratory safety that are required by the University or the laboratory supervisor and to adhere to all cleanliness and safety guidelines and procedures established by the laboratory.
At the end of the eleven months of the first year appointment, the incumbent will submit a written report to the research team outlining the activities for the preceding months. The report will be used to determine whether the research performance of the incumbent has been satisfactory.
