Essential Job Duties:
This is a full-time staff position that will report to BTEC's senior instructional designer. Essential duties include collaborating with subject matter experts (faculty/instructors) and instructional support professionals to design, develop, implement and evaluate courses and course materials for BTEC's academic and professional development programs. Proven abilities to design and develop eLearning materials are required for this position.
Specific duties include but are not limited to the following:
Collaborating with project team members to develop performance objectives, content, and assessments based on subject matter and selected instructional delivery strategies.
Using sound instructional design and adult learning principles to design, develop, and produce engaging and effective online course content that incorporates mixed media such as graphics, animation, text, audio, and video.
Using commercially available authoring tools (e.g., Articulate or Captivate) as needed to develop online course materials while designing interactions to increase learning and retention.
Opportunities also exist for this individual to contribute to BTEC's marketing efforts; develop website content; and assist in compiling and editing grant applications, reports, presentations and similar materials.
Other duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Performing various content development, project management, and administrative tasks as required, e.g., proof course materials at multiple stages of development and make or document required changes.
Executing work plans so as to develop multiple courses simultaneously, providing intermediate progress reports to managers and project leaders.
Assisting as needed in using established evaluation techniques to measure and report on the effectiveness of learning activities.
Maintaining knowledge and ability to effectively use the software programs and technologies required to carry out job duties.
Working effectively and collaboratively with other program personnel, and partner with staff to ensure accuracy, consistency, and timely dissemination of all information.
Utilizing time management tools and efficient and effective communication to accomplish all assigned tasks, and demonstrate a high standard of professionalism and ownership/responsibility.
Require post-baccalaureate credentials or a bachelor's degree plus alternative or equivalent professional training and experience may be substituted for the advanced degree on an exceptional basis.
A good working knowledge of commercial authoring/content development software tools, including intermediate-level skill with at least one tool (e.g., Articulate, Captivate, Lectora).
Intermediate-level skills with at least one learning management systems (LMS).
Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (or similar software).
Instructional design and development Skills and abilities needed to:
Develop measurable learning objectives and identify appropriate instructional strategies;
Collaborate with subject matter experts on the design and development of effective, engaging online courses or learning modules and instructional materials for instructor-led courses;
Develop multimedia materials – i.e., video, audio or other media-rich components – that will be incorporated within courses;
Manage project timelines and ensure quality of finished materials.
Interpersonal/communication/teamwork Skills and abilities needed to:
Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, to various audiences;
Work independently and as a member of a team, establishing effective working relationships with peers and others.
Education: Master's degree in instructional design, education, training and development, or related field; or in engineering or the life sciences (chemical engineering, biochemistry, chemistry, microbiology) or related discipline. Teaching experience is desirable.
Knowledge of Google G Suite.
Audio and/or video editing skills (e.g., iMovie, Final Cut Pro)
Familiarity with accessibility requirements and SCORM and AICC standards.
Familiarity with and ability to use Associated Press (AP) style
Project management experience, to include experience managing multiple instructional design projects at the same time.
Knowledge of group/team dynamics and ability to facilitate meetings.
Ability to keep current on instructional design theory and practice.
