The Immunologist holds an academic-year appointment as assistant professor in the Department of Biochemistry (or Food Science and Technology, Nutrition and Health Sciences, or School of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences) in the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources (IANR). The incumbent will conduct a research and teaching program in immune signaling that addresses the sequence of intracellular signaling events activated in individual cells following the association of cell surface molecules during cell-cell contact, and the relationships to the detection of soluble molecules of either host or pathogen origin.
The incumbent is expected to maintain a high impact, nationally and internationally recognized, externally supported research and teaching program contributing as an effective scholar and citizen to the integrated (extension, research, and teaching) land-grant mission of the Department of Biochemistry (or Food Science and Technology, Nutrition and Health Sciences, or School of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences) and IANR, including supporting student recruitment and IANR science literacy. Research conducted by the incumbent will combine the use of wet-lab and computational (immunomics) approaches to address complex questions associated with the immune function, partnering with colleagues addressing infectious diseases, aging and redox biology, food for health and metabolism, and nutrition and health at UNL and UNMC, and including applications of advanced immunomics linked with complementary expertise in the Nebraska Center for Integrated Biomolecular Communication. Contributions to the teaching mission are expected to average 0.20 FTE by providing foundations in immunology, immune signaling, and immunomics in the core teaching areas of biochemistry and the molecular life sciences, as well as recruiting, advising, and mentoring. Specific course assignments may change according to program needs.
In the area of work covered by the position, the incumbent is expected to seek and establish effective disciplinary and trans-disciplinary collaborations, including integration with local stakeholders, complementary research groups, extension teams, educational programs, and other partners. The incumbent is expected to accept committee assignments, reporting responsibilities, and other special ad hoc assignments as requested at the administrative unit, college/division, institute, and/or university levels.

Minimum Required Qualifications:
1. Ph.D. or equivalent in Biochemistry, Immunology, Biophysics, Chemistry, Microbiology, or Molecular Biology 2. Expertise in immunology. 3. A minimum of two years of postdoctoral experience. 4. A strong record of original research as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications.
