Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey is seeking a motivated Postdoctoral Fellow for the The Center for Emerging Pathogens at the New Jersey Medical School.
The Postdoctoral Fellow will train in advanced techniques, assays and methods of microbiology, immunology and molecular biology. The Center for Emerging Pathogens has programs in molecular diagnostics, host-pathogen interactions, host immunity in Tuberculosis, human immunology of TB, HIV treatment, HIV prevention, tuberculosis drug development.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Researcher/Fellow will work with Principal Investigator, Faculty Mentor and other members of the Training Program to develop a program to satisfy towards the requirements of a Doctoral Degree at Makerere University, Kampala, Uganda. At Rutgers University, the Researcher/Fellow will train via coursework and intensive laboratory activities in the initial 1.5 years towards degree satisfaction. Program is customized to meet the biomedical research interests of the Researcher/Fellow.
Attends graduate-level course(s) as determined by PI, Faculty Mentor and overall training program to satisfy degree requirements.
Participates in conferences, journal clubs, presentations and student activities commensurate with graduate degree program requirements.
Working with Faculty Mentor(s) develops an appropriate clinical and translational research program and training in a selected area of focus of infectious diseases.
Attends workshops and other activities offered at Rutgers University to receive rigorous training in basic research methodologies, learn grant writing, proposals, ethical conduct of human subjects research and manuscript preparation.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Medical Degree (MD or MBChB), plus one (1) year of research experience, and eligible for a PhD degree from Makerere University in Biomedical Sciences leading to a faculty appointment in the Faculty of Biomedical Sciences in the College of Health Sciences at Makerere University.
Preferred research experience includes microbiology, immunology or molecular biology in the areas of infectious diseases and/or Tuberculosis.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Ability to lift up to 25 pounds. Computer data input.
Able to work in a BSL-2 laboratory setting, with exposure to blood-borne pathogens, hazardous biological materials and human subjects.
