Postdoctoral Research Associate - Nanovaccine Institute
Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
The ISU Nanovaccine Institute is accepting applications for an ambitious and result-oriented postdoctoral associate in the area of metabolic profiling in cancer with Raman spectroscopy. The position is based at Ames, IA. The individual will work with a highly interdisciplinary team of engineers and biomedical scientists on a DOD-funded project to develop a high throughput drug-screening platform based on Raman spectroscopy to distinguish responders from those resistant to treatment in cancer cells in vitro, and validated in patient-derived tumor organoids. The chemical footprint of metabolites and proteins will be identified in cells/organoids before and after treatment and quantified with multivariate statistical analysis and/or machine learning algorithms. The work will be performed in state-of-the-are labs with advanced equipment and facilities for therapeutics, spectroscopy, and machine learning.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Ph.D. in Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, or relevant field.
Expertise in Label-free Raman spectroscopy and principle component analysis as evidenced by high quality publications in high impact journals
Synthesis of gold nanoparticles for surface enhanced spectroscopies, and cell culture.
Experience with Raman spectroscopy in 2D cells and 3D organoids
Experience with basic biological techniques including flow cytometry, immunofluorescence, western blot etc.
Experience with managing, coordinating, and mentoring junior investigators
Department/Program & College Description:
The Nanovaccine Institute is a consortium of 66 researchers at 20 universities, research institutes, national laboratories, and companies, coordinated by Iowa State University. Our research is an interdisciplinary merger of immunology, nanotechnology, materials science, imaging, microbiology, neuroscience, cancer biology, gerontology, clinical science, and social science. We are developing nanotherapeutics and state of the art imaging and spectral techniques to evaluate multiple disorders including cancer, respiratory infections, neural disorders, tropical diseases, aging, and veterinary diseases. Our vision is that these imaging and therapeutic approaches will revolutionize how we prevent and treat disease.
