The TerAvest, Hausinger, and Hegg labs are seeking a postdoctoral researcher to explore new routes for efficient, electrode-driven carbon and nitrogen fixation with bacterial catalysts. The goal of the project is to engineer a protein-based electron conduit to transfer electrons from extracellular electrodes to intracellular electron carriers in bacteria. The key challenge in the project will be re-engineering a membrane-integrated redox protein to alter its redox potential and binding partners. This project will afford opportunities for the researcher to interact with three highly active research groups and develop a new research area at the nexus of synthetic biology, protein engineering, an bioenergy. A detailed mentoring plan will be developed in collaboration with the successful candidate to ensure that they can meet their professional and personal goals during their postdoctoral work at MSU.
Duties include: Perform rigorous, high-quality research to address the project goals, engage in joint projects with members of the three collaborating labs, publish research articles and present research at national and international meetings, engage with the MSU research community.
Doctorate -biochemistry, chemistry, microbiology, b
PhD in biochemistry, chemistry, microbiology, bioengineering, or related field.
Background in metalloenzymology, protein engineering, biophysics and/or bioenergetics.
