Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow for the Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology at the Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
The Postdoctoral Fellow will adapt and apply genome-scale approaches developed in the Woychik laboratory toward understanding the role of toxin-antitoxin systems in three bacterial pathogens: Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus epidermidis.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Design and implement experiments independently with input from the adviser and collaborator(s).
Projects include elucidation of the function of toxin-antitoxin systems in pathogenic Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus (esp. MRSA) and Staphylococcus epidermidis strains using genome-scale tools developed in the Woychik laboratory (5' RNA-seq) and as well as quantitative mass spectrometry thru the Rutgers.
Interest in acquiring expertise in the spectrum of computational/bioinformatic methods (from current lab members, specialized offsite courses, and online courses) required to analyze transcriptome and proteome data.
Participates in weekly lab meetings.
Prepares experimental data for publication and grant applications independently with minimal input from adviser and peers.
Maintains accurate records of laboratory notebooks and research activity; reviews literature and prepares manuscripts and abstracts for submission; presents findings at national/international meetings.
May also mentor graduate/undergraduate students.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Ph.D. in Microbiology or related disciplines.
Minimum of three (3) years of previous experience in microbiology.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Must be highly motivated with evidence of productivity.
Must have excellent communication skills.
Must be adept at working in teams and with multiple Principal Investigators.
