The Department of Pediatrics is seeking a technician to join our team in a full time position. Columbia University Medical Center's Department of Pediatrics is a world leader in providing care for children. Our mission areas include Healthcare, Education and Research. We also have several active Clinical trials available to our patients. This position will support the department by providing technical and scientific support to our Research team
Interact with the principal investigators and laboratory members (students, postdoctoral fellows, and others) to help execute research projects and assist with day to day laboratory work.
The individual will perform laboratory procedures including cell culture, organoid culture, viral infections and preparations, molecular biology (PCR, qRT-PCR, Western Blot etc), enzyme assays and other assays as they are needed or developed.
Use new techniques to assist in research progress.
Assist in the preparation of internal progress reports on experiments.
Assists in the orientation of new lab members as needed.
Attends weekly laboratory meetings and other training programs in other collaborating laboratories as needed.
Perform administrative duties as needed, including but not limited to: ordering supplies and reagents for other lab members, performing inventory on basic laboratory materials, organizing freezers and other storage, reconciling purchase charges through central administration, submitting purchases orders when required.
May assist on computational studies and/or with research databases.
May contribute to publications and research presentations.
Any other related duties as assigned
2 years of college or completed A.A. program with an emphasis in chemistry, biology or physics or the equivalent in education, training and experience
BS or BA degree in biology, immunology, molecular biology or microbiology with laboratory research experience
