Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey is seeking a motivated Research Teaching Specialist IV for the Department of Infectious Diseases within the New Jersey Medical School.
The primary purpose of the Research Teaching Specialist IV position is to assist with specimen coordination and laboratory research activities pertaining to clinical/translational studies of tuberculosis diagnostics and therapeutic drug monitoring under supervision of the Principal Investigator.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Processes clinical specimens and assists with molecular microbiologic assays.
Coordinates laboratory activities and specimen shipments with collaborating international research sites.
Contributes to experimental design.
Conducts analysis of acquired data and assists with manuscript preparation for publication of data generated.
Demonstrates compliance with BSL3 rules and guidelines.
Participates in the evaluation of the existing procedures, suggesting revisions, where necessary and proposing new procedures where required.
As required, assists in the implementation of the programs and projects in special areas of interest to the department. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Demonstrates good team spirit and strong work ethic.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Qualified applicants should have a Master's Degree in biological sciences or a bachelor's degree in biological sciences and at least one year of laboratory research experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Candidates should have basic familiarity with molecular techniques (eg. PCR, RT-PCR, DNA sequencing) as well as excellent oral and written communication skills.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Must be able to lift or exert force up to 25 pounds.
