Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Laboratory Researcher III for the Department of Chemical Biology. This position provides research assistance to Dr. Suzie Chen. The Laboratory Researcher III participates in molecular biology, biochemical research and animal studies on molecular mechanisms of melanoma development in transgenic mice. This position is also is responsible for performing experiments under Dr. Chen's direct supervision as well as maintaining the necessary daily laboratory activities, reagents and supplies.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Performs biochemical, immunochemical and molecular methods for measuring levels of protein as an indication of regulation of gene expression when normal and tumor cells are treated with reagents including small molecules, silencing RNA, antisense RNA.
Orders and maintains laboratory supplies.
Maintains laboratory in clean and tidy condition.
Keeps accurate and legible records of medical waste and radioactivity inventory.
Disposes of medical waste and carcinogenic chemicals as required by REHS.
Performs wipe tests monthly. Stores radioactive materials and carcinogenic chemicals in a safe place.
Assists with the training of new laboratory members including undergraduate and graduate students.
Models good laboratory safety procedures in the laboratory at all times.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Bachelor of Science degree in molecular biology or a related field.
A minimum two (2) years of related experience in one of these fields as well as the ability to work with small animals.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Sound understanding of applications of the theoretical discipline and a greater depth of knowledge of the discipline, usually thorough on-the-job training.
Ability to write well and a good communication.
Advanced experience in recombinant DNA, and experience in analyzing protein protein interactions.
Good computer skills, knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, GraphPad Prism and PowerPoint.
Experience working with small laboratory animals and using western blots, PCR, mRNA isolation, characterization of protein and mRNA and cell culture techniques.
