The primary function of this position is to conduct skilled microbiological testing of client food samples for pathogens and indicator organisms at the bench. Activities related to benchtop testing include making of media, logging in samples, testing kits and supplies, monitoring and verification of equipment, participating in quality assurance of media and test kits, and maintenance of records. Additional duties include safe disposal of biohazardous waste, updating the chemical/media inventories and assisting the lab manager in training student lab assistants.

Minimum Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in food science, biology, or microbiology plus one year of lab or related experience; equivalent education/experience considered. Skilled at utilizing weigh balances and pipettors. Word processing and spreadsheet software skills.
Experience working in an ISO certified lab. Knowledge of aseptic technique, making media, and working under ISO quality requirements.
Posted Salary: $17.00/hr minimum
