Duties/Responsibilities: Manage the lab. Scheduling lab work/events, organizing supply inventory and requesting new supplies, managing animal protocols, inventory supplies and reagents in the lab to ensure proper supply and equipment is available and working. Make sure that lab is meeting any and all standards for lab safety and cleanliness. Order supplies and animals for coworkers and self as needed. Preparing supplies for use (i.e. autoclaving, obtaining and mixing chemicals, etc.) (20%)
Manage animal protocols. Obtain animals from specific IACUC protocol for coworkers for in vitro use in lab. Keep extensive records on all animal work. Work with and follow all IACUC and animal facility rules and regulations for lab. (10%)
Experimental design. Design, plan and schedule experiments either previously described or entirely new experiments in grant and IACUC protocols. Ensure all supplies/reagents needed for any and all experiments are on hand. (10%)
Perform Experiments. Prepare and maintain cell cultures. Perform basic studies using cell lines and anticancer drugs and hormones. Extract RNA/DNA/protein from cell cultured cells/single cell suspensions. Perform RT-qPCR, gel electrophoresis, and Western Blot. Harvest skin/blood/organs/mammary glands from mice to be processed and embedded in O.C.T. compound or paraffin blocks for staining. Perform immunohistological staining tissues to determine expression and/or localization of proteins of interest. Perform in vivo animal studies including cell line xenografts and record tumor sizes and measure other endpoints. (35%)
Analyze Results. Record data from performed experiments in spreadsheets and compile records. Generate tables and/or graphs for recorded data. (10%)
Report/Communicate Results. Report analyzed data and figures to supervisor and coworkers at lab meetings. (10%)
Mentor/Coach Lab Employees. Coach and train new lab members and/or junior researchers to ensure smooth onboarding and compliance with institute and laboratory safety policies. (5%)
Required Qualification: B.A./B.S. in biochemistry, cell biology, molecular biology or related field and 1 year of experience or education and related experience related to the job totaling at least five years. Ability to work independently and rapidly acquire new skills in conduct of molecular or cellular procedures. Ability to work as part of a research team.
Preferred Qualifications: BA or BS degree in the field of General Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or related field and 2 years of related experience required. An equivalent combination of education and experience of at least 6 years will be considered. Must be able to work independently with limited supervision.
