Advertised Job Summary:
The Assistant Chemical Hygiene Officer (ACHO) supports the Chemical Hygiene Officer (CHO) with the development, implementation and maintenance of a comprehensive Chemical and Laboratory Safety Program. This position serves as the assistant technical expert on chemical safety issues. Under limited supervision, the ACHO performs moderately complex chemical safety activities to promote the safe use of hazardous chemicals and physical hazards in all research and teaching laboratories throughout the University of South Carolina System. The ACHO also assists with special projects required to correct areas of non-compliance and to provide appropriate chemical and lab safety oversight in response to changes in University research and the regulatory environment. The ACHO is expected to work as part of a collaborative research safety team, contribute to a positive work environment, and strive for continuous improvement in all assigned duties. This position supports the implementation and use of the research safety management system.
Advertised Minimum Qualifications :
Master’s degree in chemistry, natural or physical sciences, engineering, or related technical field and 1 year of experience working in a research laboratory or in a chemical or laboratory safety program, or Bachelor’s degree in related field and 3 years related experience.
