The University of Pittsburgh is seeking a Research Specialist with abilities and an interest in animal studies, including but not limited to the delivery of therapeutics, dissection, and husbandry. This position involves vivo pneumonia studies using established murine models, microbiological techniques, and maintenance of colonies of transgenic knock-out mice.
The ideal candidate will be proficient in the following: - instilling drugs or infectious pathogens into mice for studies of efficacy - toxicology or other in vitro assays - maintenance of breeding colonies of mice - isolation of genomic DNA - PCR based genotyping - necropsy and tissue processing from RNA isolation and histopathology Responsibilities include: - performing animal studies - carrying out related assays - maintaining an accurate and well-organized record of laboratory activities - efficiently organizing personal laboratory activities - interacting with senior members in the establishment of daily activities The incumbent will also be responsible for laboratory maintenance, ordering and record-keeping, as well as ensuring a safe working environment through application of chemical hygiene and biosafety protocols.
Previous experience working with mice is preferred. Combination of relevant education and experience will be considered. none
