One residency position is available for the coming residency year.
Cone Health started the PGY2 infectious diseases (ID) residency in 2016 after being heavily involved in antimicrobial stewardship and ID for many years. We received ASHP accreditation in 2017. The PGY2 resident will work closely with staff from infectious diseases, microbiology, infection prevention, and pharmacy to improve antibiotic use throughout our six-hospital system. We have utilized clinical decision support software since 2011, which greatly aids in our antimicrobial stewardship efforts. Because we feel that knowledge of ambulatory infectious diseases like HIV and hepatitis C is extremely important, the resident will be involved in a weekly half-day ambulatory care experience at the Regional Center for Infectious Disease, working closely with our dedicated clinical pharmacy practitioner as well as physician and nursing staff.
Precepting experiences abound with opportunities to mentor pharmacy students and PGY1 pharmacy residents, as well as participate in classroom instruction at High Point University College of Pharmacy.
Required rotations include orientation / clinical microbiology, infectious diseases consults, antimicrobial stewardship, critical care, and ambulatory care infectious diseases. We offer electives in emergency medicine, specialty pharmacy, and academia at High Point University College of Pharmacy. We have collaborated with High Point University to offer a teaching certificate to interested individuals. An individualized training plan, based on the resident’s entrance level of knowledge, skills, and interests, is developed and adjusted throughout the year.
