This ASHP-accredited Infectious Diseases residency program provides direct patient care in various clinical areas of the health system. Experiences include infectious disease consult service, infectious disease clinics, antibiotic stewardship, microbiologic and laboratory monitoring, pharmacokinetic services, drug policy/information, and clinical research/quality assurance projects. Participation in teaching pharmacy students from affiliated colleges of pharmacy is available. A close working relationship is established with the University of South Florida, College of Medicine, Division of Infectious Disease.
The resident’s schedule will be designed around the 3 core areas of practice: Inpatient Consult Service, Antimicrobial Stewardship Program (ASP), and Outpatient ID Clinics. Opportunities exist for elective rotations in ASP with ICU or SCI focus, and HIV Clinic Focus in Primary Care. The resident will complete longitudinal rotation activities for presentations/teaching, a major quality improvement project, and practice management. A traditional research project is optional. Opportunities also exist for experience working with Regional and National ID Program Managers on longitudinal projects.
Pharm.D. degree and completion of a PGY1 residency is required

About PGY-2 Infectious Disease Resident - James A. Haley VA Hospital
The James A. Haley Veterans’ Hospital (JAHVH), located in Tampa, Florida, was built in 1972, is a quaternary clinical referral facility and provides services to more than 116,000 Veterans. Our main facility is comprised of a 566-bed medical center including a 415-bed hospital with a level 1 poly-trauma center; a spinal cord injury center, a community living center and a domiciliary. We are a large teaching hospital, affiliated with the University of South Florida College of Medicine and provide training for over 400 health professionals. Teaching is also provided through affiliation with 5 local pharmacy schools. We provide a full complement of services and surgical specialties including primary care, internal medicine, surgery, psychiatry, physical medicine research and rehabilitation, spinal cord injury, oncology, geriatrics and extended care. We also have special programs for women Veterans as well as returning service members and their families. Our hospital has a newly built poly-trauma building which is the busiest in the nation. JAHVH consists of eight facilities serving over six counties in West-Central Florida. This includes 6 affiliated community-based outpatient clinics ...(CBOCs) including New Port Richey, Zephyrhills, Lakeland, Brooksville, South Hillsborough and Lecanto.
