Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a motivated Laboratory Technician for the Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology within the Cancer Institute of New Jersey.
The Laboratory Technician will be responsible for the conduct and execution of research experiments following the instructions given by the Principal Investigator of the laboratory team. This will include supporting the research of Principal Investigators and senior members of the laboratory.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Animal handling, including weighing, labeling, intraperitoneal injections, intrathecal injections, collection of blood and spinal fluid.
Behavioral assays of cognitive function in rats, including set-shifting, object placement and novel object recognition tests.
General laboratory maintenance.
Attends laboratory meetings, journal clubs and other educational activities.
Maintains laboratory notebooks and laboratory resources.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Associate’s Degree in a relevant science.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Demonstrated ability to organize and maintain general laboratory functions, is desired, must be able to maintain accurate records, follow laboratory safety guidelines and institutional policies.
Must successfully complete mandatory lab safety/shipping training courses, as required by Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey.
Effective oral and communication skills.
Must be computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
B.S or B.A in Biological Science degree.
Prior laboratory experience in assisting and/ or performing experiments including animal handling and molecular biology.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Lifting up to 25 lbs.
Occasional overtime flexibility is required.
