Responsibilities In accordance with California Business and Professions Code Section 1269 and under the direct and constant supervision of a Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS), the Hospital Lab Technician 2 performs scheduled maintenance, testing, and quality control processes on point of care equipment and instruments, which may include the preparation of reagents. Oversees inventory for assigned department to include monitoring and ordering supplies. Supports the department by answering telephones, filing, and required recordkeeping. May provide laboratory technical instruction and training to non-laboratory personnel.
Required Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Minimum 3 years' experience as an HLT I or equivalent in an accredited clinical laboratory.
Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology (anatomy, medical conditions, symptoms, test methods, treatment).
Demonstrated competency achievement to operate technical equipment and analytical systems used to perform work accurately and proficiently.
Knowledge of hospital and laboratory regulations and requirements (e.g. CDPH, CAP, TJC, AABB, FDA, NAACLS, FACT, OSHA, CLIA) for testing and laboratory safety.
Demonstrated manual dexterity.
Proficient knowledge of personal computer, word processing, data management, spreadsheet software, Laboratory Information System (LIS) and Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's or Associate's Degree in laboratory science or medical laboratory technology.
Knowledge of all safety precautions necessary when working with chemicals, equipment (mechanical and electrical), biological samples, radioactive materials, etc.
Experience with principles of quality control and quality assurance in order to recognize processes that could lead to test failures.
Experience writing clear technical reports and/or policies and procedures.
Special Requirements Must be able to work overtime as needed and rotate weekends, holidays and on-call hours per departmental staffing policies. Must be able to lift, move and handle objects weighing up to 44 lbs. Will also be required to utilize body mechanics (walking, sitting, standing, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, grasping, pushing, pulling and reaching) when necessary to carry out all job duties and functions. This position may be subject to a criminal background investigation, drug screen, Live Scan fingerprinting, medical evaluation clearance, and functional capacity assessment.
