The Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA) Pharmacy team provides extensive pharmaceutical care to inpatient and ambulatory patients. In addition to direct care, pharmacists participate in drug therapy consults, conduct clinical research protocols, provide patient/family/staff education, and precept pharmacy students and residents. SCCA combines the adult and pediatric oncology patient care services of three world-renowned cancer care institutions Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, Seattle Children's, and UW Medicine.
SCCA has an outstanding opportunity for a FULL-TIME STERILE COMPOUNDING QUALITY ASSURANCE PHARMACIST (PHARMACIST 3). The Sterile Compounding Quality Assurance Pharmacist will direct, develop, implement, and evaluate quality assurance programs for compounded sterile products across SCCA Pharmacies. This position will coordinate and manage the interpretation and reporting of microbiological test results, environmental monitoring test results, end product test results, and test results from sterile compounding room staff. Position responsibilities include working with managers, leads and staff to design and implement all quality assurance policies, standards, and performance of all tests in accordance with the pharmacy department’s standard operating procedures. The Sterile Compounding Quality Assurance Pharmacist is required to work independently in a highly-efficient and organized manner to ensure timely review and action of results and reports.
RESPONSIBILITIES: • Develop, implement, and maintain training programs and competency assessments designed to ensure a high level of expertise in the compounding of sterile products for pharmacy personnel in collaboration with the pharmacy managers. • Oversee SCCA Pharmacy Department’s quality assurance and improvement initiatives, and programs for compounded sterile products. • Advise pharmacy managers and directors of pharmacy on all quality matters related to the preparation of sterile products. • Provide management and project reports as required. • Assume other responsibilities of the pharmacy department’s quality assurance program as delegated. • Maintain thorough knowledge of technical advances and current practice standards in quality assurance in the field of sterile compounding and microbiology. • Responsible for microbial environmental testing of air, surfaces, and personnel as outlined in USP standards. • Work collaboratively with the Pharmacy Operations Manager to assess departmental metrics regarding quality assurance initiatives. • Assist with creating and maintaining policies and standard operating procedures for the SCCA pharmacy department’s compounded sterile product quality assurance program. • Responsible for quality control, quality assurance, problem-solving, and regulatory compliance for all actions related to sterile product preparation.
Program oversight: • Maintain effective communication with the administrative staff of the SCCA Pharmacy Department. • Ensure compliance with all pharmacy laws, regulations, and accreditation standards as it relates to sterile compounding. Serve as liaison with regulatory agencies and accreditation entities as delegated. • Review sterility testing reports and communicate results to pharmacy leadership team. Ensure appropriate action when microbial sampling exceeds action levels. • Provide routine, ongoing evaluation of equipment and products utilized in sterile compounding practices. Ensure that required maintenance and monitoring of equipment is completed.
Personnel: • Ensure pharmacy staff development, new employee orientation, and ongoing training of national quality assurance standards and regulations in coordination with management team members. • Ensure quality assurance documentation is current for licensed or certified personnel.
Education: • Provide education for pharmacy department staff regarding state and federal regulations regarding all relevant chapters of USP, state, FDA regulations, and national quality assurance standards of practice.
Other: • Promote an image of service and goodwill to patients, public, and SCCA staff. • Perform the duties of the Pharmacist 2. • Perform all other duties as assigned.
DESIRED: Three years of sterile compounding experience in a health-system pharmacy practice setting.
