Performs all aspects of diagnostic histology, including grossing, routine processing, embedding, sectioning and staining tissue specimens, for microscopic examination by the Dermatopathologist. Will prepare solutions and perform special stain techniques. Independently handles administrative and billing tasks associated with tracking of specimens, shipping, recharges, etc. Maintains lab inventory and equipment, and keeps quality control records of work performed. Certification as HT (ASCP) required Experience with immunohistochemical methods
Knowledgeable in general biology, anatomy, medical terminology, physiology and chemistry with an understanding of the scientific method. Experience and knowledge of all histology equipment, such as tissue processors, microtomes, balances and pH meters. Ability to use computerized database and word processing software. Knowledge of medical terminology. Knowledge of laboratory safety procedures. Good interpersonal skills. Ability to prioritize workload.
